Top Ten Brain-Damaging Habits

We have so many mannerisms and habits. We often think that doing them makes us feel at ease. However, what we don’t know is that these habits may cause internal destruction like brain damage.
Well, for you to know if your habits are still healthy, here’s a list of the things usually done that might inflict damage to your brain…

1. Skipping Breakfast or No Breakfast at all
People who do not take breakfast usually got a lower blood sugar level. That’s bad. It leads to an insufficient of nutrients to the brain causing brain degeneration. Also, skipping breakfast means no supply of carbohydrates and carbohydrates are very important in producing the energy you need for the rest of the day.

2. Over eating
It’s fun to eat much especially if the foods before you are your favorites. However, eating too much got some disadvantages too. Over eating causes the hardening of the brain arteries which leads to a decrease in mental power. That’s why you might notice that you can’t concentrate well on a puzzle if you have eaten more than the usual.

3. Smoking
Yup. It does not only damage the lungs but also the brain. The nicotine in cigarettes also contain some substances that causes multiple brain shrinkage. If this will continue, you might even get an Alzheimer’s disease.

4. High sugar consumption
Too much of everything is bad. Having a high sugar count interrupts the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition. This may also interfere in the brain development. Thus, it is not advisable, especially for children to indulge in sweets.

5. Exposure in air pollution
This is not actually a habit since we are always exposed to pollution. Yet, it is listed here because it is one the main causes of brain damage. it is a fact that the brain is one of the major oxygen consumers in the body. Inhaling polluted air decreases the supply of oxygen, bringing about a decrease in brain efficiency.

6. Lack of sleep or Sleep deprivation
Sleep is very essential. it allows our brain to rest from all the hard work it has done. Long term deprivation from sleep accelerates the death of brain cells.

7. Head covered while sleeping
Believe me, this is unhealthy too. Sleeping with your head covered increases the concentration of carbon dioxide and decreases the concentration of oxygen which leads to brain damaging effects.

8. Working your brain during illness
This is very common to students and professionals alike. Going to school or office while sick and doing lots of brain work. Do you know that working hard or studying while sick leads to a decrease of brain effctiveness and also brings brain damage? Well, now you know ;)

9. Lacking in stimulating thoughts
Thinking is the best way to train our brain. having smart conversations or writing some essays is very healthy. Talking non-sense things is definitely not. It is best to always have brain stimulating thoughts to avoid brain shrinkage.

10. Talking Rarely
There’s nothing bad in being talkative, it is actually healthy. Intellectual conversations promote the efficiency of the brain.
Now you are aware of those brain damaging habits. You can already avoid the ones you got that are not healthy. :)

Mr Ube Health Tips

Eat wholegrain foods! Make sure u have whole-grain bread, rice or pasta and u might reduce the chance of having cancer by 40%.

How to Pick Whole Grain Bread
We all know "whole grain" is best for us, but do we really know what that means? When picking whole grain bread, look for the qualities laid out in the following steps to be sure you are truly getting what you pay for.
Instructions

1 Look past the advertising tricks. Many bread labels claim to be whole grain by using words like "multigrain," "seven grain," and "cracked wheat," but don't be fooled by these catchy labels.

2 Remember that looks can be deceiving. Just because bread is brown in color does not necessarily mean that it is whole grain. Many wheat breads are enhanced with caramel coloring to make them appear nutritious.

3 Read the nutritional information. True whole grain breads will contain at least 3 grams of fiber per serving.

4 Try a few brands over a few weeks' time. Bread is a personal matter, as silly as it may sound. You may have to try 3 or 4 brands before you find one with just the right crust, moisture level and overall taste.

5 Look for the stamp of approval. In 2005 a stamp was created so that consumers could easily differentiate true whole grains from imposters. Go to the Whole Grain Council's Website to learn more about the stamp.

6 Check out Real Simple magazine's article, "The Best Whole Grain Breads" to see which whole grain breads were rated as top of the line by their food editors.

Treating Gingivit

Gingivitis is a condition which is also known as bleeding gums, and refers to the swelling of the gums due to poor oral hygiene. This one of the common periodontal diseases that affects the tissues which surround the teeth and gums.

This condition, if not treated properly and in time, may lead to more serious gum problems like periodontitis and will ultimately lead to the further damage of bone and tooth loss as well. A lot of individuals already have this condition, but may not be aware of it because early stage gum diseases like this are seldom painful.

Common Symptoms And Causes of Gingivitis

Bleeding while brushing, painful, reddened, swollen gums and tender gums, bad breath and bad taste in the mouth are some of the common symptoms of gingivitis, and mainly caused by local irritants. Bacteria, plaque and food particles that gather between the gums and the teeth cause this disease.

Although these accumulations could be quite small, the toxic chemicals produced by these bacteria cause the inflammation of gums. Aside from plaque, other major reasons for this condition viral and fungal infections, use of drugs, hormonal changes during pregnancy and puberty, poor nutrition, medication and others.

Effective Herbal Treatments For This Disease

- Grapefruit

This fruit is Vitamin C-rich and has lots of flavonoids, which help strengthen the body's resistance to infections. A lot of natural dental products today contain grapefruit seed extract, that serves as a powerful antioxidant in fighting gum diseases.

- Mustard Oil

Fill a tablespoon of mustard oil and add a teaspoon of common salt to it. Using the forefinger, take a small amount of this mixture and massage the gums gently in upward, downward and circular strokes. Massage the gums for 30 seconds and then gargle with warm water, and do this 2-3 times a day.

- Cranberry

Many health researchers have noted that cranberry helps in preventing bacteria that cause plaque from sticking on the surface of your teeth, which aids in stopping gum diseases on its track. Individuals suffering from this disease can try toothpaste with cranberry extract or drink cranberry juice daily, but need to take it without sugar.

- Echinacea

This potent herb aids in boosting the body's immune system and suppressing bacterial attacks such as gum diseases. It also help soothe mouth ulcers and reduces gum swelling.

- Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is seen as one of the most effective herbs in treating gum disease naturally. Aloe Vera reduces gum inflammation and bleeding, heals sores and eradicates mouth bacteria. It has proven antiseptic qualities that help in preventing and curing mild and severe gum diseases.

- You may also use a mouthwash containing sage oil, peppermint oil, menthol, chamomile tincture. You could also use toothpastes that contain sage oil, peppermint oil etc.

Gum disease usually takes place when plaque on teeth builds up below the gum line and forms into tartar. These two carry bacteria that can infect gums and damage tissues and bones around the teeth.

For preventing this, daily brushing, flossing and getting regular visits to the dentist help a lot. Individuals may also try using natural gum disease products, because these contain natural ingredients that curb the onset of bacterial infection by eliminating plaque.

Diabetes – What is Diabetes and How Many Types Are There?

Diabetes is a pretty common disease with abnormally high levels of glucose in the bloodstream. Perhaps more than any other disease, it is strongly associated with western culture and diet.

The pancreas produces insulin and insulin is used to lower blood glucose levels. If the pancreas doesn’t produce enough insulin, your body will develop diabetes. Not enough insulin in the body causes diabetes. The body cannot absorb or make full use of some of the food that we eat, especially the carbohydrates or sugars or starches.

The pancreas does not make enough insulin available to burn these foods as energy or store them for future use. The starches and sugars increase the blood sugar content. The sugar now passes through the kidneys and into the urine. The symptoms of diabetes are caused by the loss of carbohydrate energy, leading to an illness which can be fatal if not treated properly.

There are two types of Diabetes; these are Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes. Whatever diabetes type, it represents an abnormal rise of glucose in a person’s blood. This anomaly is due to the insufficient level of insulin or maybe a misuse of it. If it is not treated appropriately, this disease can be the origin of many serious complications (cardiac disease, amputations, blindness, and impotence).

Glucose brings energy to different parts of the human body. Insulin plays a major role to stabilize the glucose in the blood after physical effort or after a meal. This is a complex regulating system.

For a normal person, glycemia levels oscillate at between 0,5 and 1,5 gram per liter of blood. Glycemia is the sugar rate in the blood, and the average value is 1 gram per liter (5,5 mmol/l). It varies between 1 and 1,4 gram/l two hours after a meal. It varies between 0.8 and 1.26 gram/liter in the morning.

According the World Health Organization, there is a diabetes problem when glycemia levels are higher in the morning or equal to 1.26 gram/liter. Hypoglycemia corresponds to a glycemia lower that 0.46 gram/liter.

Self monitoring services allow the use of capillary glycemia testing to be made. A puncture is made on a finger to measure it. The drop of blood obtained is deposited on a strip and it is immediately readable by a reader that can be stored in the patient’s pocket.

The glycourie is the sugar rate in the urine. It is necessary to know its value because when the sugar reaches 1.6 gram/liter, sugar has passed into the

Health Benefits of Eating Red Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits provide various benefits to our health. Generally speaking, most people tend to connect green color with being healthy, regarding that eating green fruits will be more helpful to their health. However, nutritionists point out that red fruits also offer a number of healthy rewards to us.

Varieties of red fruits are powerful anti-oxidants, which can help ward off inflammation, prevent urinary tract infections and reduce the risk of certain cancers. As a result, experts suggest that people should try to eat red fruits twice every day. Following we introduce some typical kinds of red fruits, each with its distinctive features and functions.

First, cherry
Research finding shows that cherry contains rich anthocyanin, which can prevent inflammation. For a person with the inflammation from osteoarthritis, if he eats 35 cherries a day, his pain will be relieved gradually. And the effect is equal to that of a dose of aspirin. What's more, cherry contains plenty of iron, which has the effect of promoting the regeneration of hemoglobin and preventing cancer.

Second, watermelon
Watermelon is high in fiber, vitamins A and C, and is a good source of potassium. Research shows that watermelon is a necessary addition to our healthy diet and that all parts of the watermelon, including the seeds and rind, are edible and healthy to our body. Watermelon juice contains a variety of important chemical constituents which are beneficial to our health and beauty of the skin. These nutrients are easily absorbed by the face skin, with the good effects of moisturizing, nourishing, sun-protecting, and whitening of the skin.

Third, cranberry
According to the pharmacopoeia records in United States, cranberry is the best fruit to deal with cystitis and urinary tract infection. According to the studies, the effect of cranberry comes from a unique "phenyl peroxide", which has the similar effect of vaccine. So it can wake up the function of the immune system, and inh

ibit the invasion of harmful bacteria. In addition, cranberry also contains a super-popular antioxidant called as "proanthocyanidin". By its special antioxidant power, it can avoid cell damage and maintain the health and vitality of the cells. A part from the function of preventing urinary tract infections, cranberry can also lower the level of cholesterol. And according to some studies, it contains ellagic acid, which may fight against cancer.

Other red fruits such as red pepper and tomato are also packed with rich phyto-nutrients, which are very helpful to our health. As a result, let's include red fruits in our daily diet!

Others
Nutrition and Health Benefits: Tomatoes are an excellent source of vitamins A and C, and potassium. Lycopene in tomatoes has been found to be protective against some forms of cancer and heart disease.

Selection and storage: Choose tomatoes that have a deep rich color with bright, shiny skins and firm flesh. Store at room temperature away from direct sunlight. Use within 1 week after becoming ripe. Tomatoes taste best if not refrigerated; refrigerate only if you can’t use them before they spoil.

Nutrients and Health Benefits: Onions are a very good source of vitamin C and dietary fiber. They are rich in powerful sulfur-containing compounds that have anti-bacterial properties.

Nutrients and health benefits: Cranberries are high in vitamin C and fiber. Contain a large amount of antioxidants and may help protect against heart disease and cancer. They also have an antibacterial effect on the body.

Selection and Storage: Feel for firmness and toss one to see if it will bounce. Due to their acidic nature, cranberries can be stored in the refrigerator or frozen.

Nutrients and Health Benefits: Pomegranates are a good source of dietary fiber, and folate, and a very good source of vitamins C and K. They are rich in antioxidants that help keep arteries clear of cholesterol.

Selection and Storage: Fruits should be plump and round, heavy for their size, with a rich, fresh color and should be free of cuts and blemishes. Larger fruits produce more juice. Whole fruits can be stored for a month in a cool, dry area or refrigerated up to two months.

Nutrients and health benefits: Raspberries are an excellent source of vitamin C and manganese. Raspberries are one of the highest fiber containing fruits. As an antioxidant food, raspberries help prevent damage to cell membranes and other structures in the body by neutralizing free radicals.

Selection and Storage: Raspberries spoil very quickly, they should only be purchased one or two days prior to use. Choose berries that are firm, plump and deep in color. Unwashed raspberries will keep fresh in the refrigerator for one or two days.

Tips on Clearing a Stuffed Nose

Changes in the season, colds and allergies often bring on distressing symptoms such as a stuffed nose. Clearing up a stuffy nose is simple with a few home remedies or over-the-counter medications. Avoid mixing too many methods at once especially if you haven't previously tried natural remedies. Some herbs may interact with medications so focus on using either herbs or pharmaceuticals rather than mixing treatments at the same time.

Saline Nasal Sprays
Use saline nasal sprays to clear up a stuffed nose. These types of sprays are found at your local pharmacy or online. The Family Doctor website says to gently blow your nose before using the medication and try not to sneeze or blow your nose immediately after using the spay. Sneezing or blowing your nose can counteract the effects of the spray because the saline solution needs to remain inside your nasal cavity to help break up congestion.

Drink Green Tea
Choose caffeine-free green tea.
Drink green tea to boost your immune system and help clear up sinuses when suffering from a cold or allergies. Green tea helps clear up a stuffy nose because it contains antioxidants that stimulate the immune system. This helps to relieve all the symptoms associated with a cold such as runny nose, fever and sore throat. Green tea contains anti-inflammatory nutrients such as Vitamin C and L-theanine.

Increased Humidity
You can clear up a stuffy nose by increasing the humidity levels in your home with a vaporizer or humidifier. You can find these at your local home improvement or department store. Turn your humidifier on at night before bed so that you can breathe easier while you sleep. You can also spend 10 minutes, two or more times per day inside a sauna or hot shower to help clear up a stuffed nose. The hot steam helps clear up a stuffed nose by increasing moisture and humidity in the air.

Neti Pots
Neti pots often are used in Ayurvedic medicine. The pot resembles a small tea kettle, but is used to clean and clear out the sinuses. Saline is added to lukewarm water in the pot, and the user then pours the liquid into his nose through the spout of the pot..

Tibicos Mushroom: a Miracle Cure

I found this article and i want it to share with you. "Tibicos Mushroom: a Miracle Cure"

The tibicos have been a help to numerous individuals. I, myself, tried it and it somehow cured my insomnia.

One of my mother’s friends also did, and it alleviated her diabetes. She even said that the tibicos brought better effects than her expensive medicine. Before, she can’t even stand; After taking the tibicos for weeks, she was able to walk. Many other (who we gave some tibicos to) claimed that the drink was good for them.

The tibicos originated from Tibet, in the Himalayas. Mother Theresa of Calcutta obtained some for the poor and needy. (They aren’t exclusively for the “poor and needy!” Anyone can drink the tibicos in order that we may get the maximum the gift of nature has.) There was a condition, though, for its distribution: It mustn’t be distributed as a commercial product but as a free one.

The tibicos drink can be created by growing the tibicos mushroom. You may find growing mushrooms a bad idea but you must consider the tibicos’ effects, you must think about a better health. Here’s how to do it:

1. Store tibicos mushroom and water (the water must be pure) in a clean glass container. (Do not use soap in cleaning the container, for it has contents that may kill the needed probiotics for our health drink. Use alcohol or distilled white vinegar instead.)

2. Add sugar (preferrably Muscovado) with 1 spoonful of sugar per 3 of Tibicos.

3. Cover the container with a clean cloth and fasten it with a rubber band. This is needed because the Tibicos need oxygen to live.

4. Store the container in an undisturbed area for 24-48 hours.

5. Strain. (Use a plastic strainer, for a stainless one reacts against the Tibicos. Same goes with spoons)

6. Drink. Preferrably at morning and on an empty stomach. If there’s spare drink, store in the refrigirator.

7. Repeat the procedures. However, cleaning the container again or rinsing it may wipe out baby Tibicos. Thus, it’s not advisable. After many repetitions, the Tibicos will have been plenty for you to share with your friends.

What does the Tibicos cure?

It is good for arthritis, migraines, cancer, diabetes, heart, digestive system, liver, muscles, nerves, eyes, skin, lungs, kidneys, and blood. In addition it keeps body temperature regulated, and drinking it helps alcoholics to quit.

So what are we waiting for, folks? Let us grow these mushrooms and obtain a healthy life. And thank God for what He has for us.

Availability of the Tibicos:

Because it was first distributed by nuns, it may also be available in your Church; you must inquire. I am uncertain, for it is distributed by the people themselves who were satisfied by its effects (like how we acquired ours); it has been passed from friend to friend. I don’t know of organizations distributing it.

What Foods Should You Eat After a Stomach Virus?

After the sometimes violent symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach and intestinal cramps that accompany a stomach virus, you're going to need food to get your strength back up. Unfortunately, you may not feel like ever eating again, let alone at the first hunger pang after hours or days with a stomach virus. If you are wondering what food you should eat after a stomach virus, there are a few guidelines to follow to get yourself feeling better.
Liquids
Two hours after vomiting and four hours after diarrhea you can attempt to drink clear liquids. Clear liquids can mean water, broth, popsicles or Gatorade. Because dehydration can be such a risk factor, even if you don't yet feel like having anything, you should try to take in liquids as best you can. If you vomit or have diarrhea again, wait two to four hours to let your system calm down. Do not, however, drink or eat any dairy products until you are a day or two out from your illness.

Solid Foods
You will know when you are in the clear when you have that first feeling of actually being hungry. While your body needs food now that it can finally retain it, your mind is right to steer you away from steak dinners or macaroni and cheese. The first foods you should eat need to be bland, with natural sugars and carbohydrates. The best way to know what is safe to eat is to remember the BRAT diet: Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast. While you can take a few liberties and use the BRAT diet as more of a guideline, don't overdo it or push your body farther than you can stomach.

While bananas and applesauce are pretty clear-cut, the rice portion of the diet can be in the form of dry Rice Chex, or rice cakes. As for the toast, while old wives' tales say burnt toast is best, it can also be modified: Try plain crackers like Ritz or Saltines, and pretzels at first. Once they have stayed down for a few hours, you can move up to chicken noodle soup or chicken and rice soup, adding both liquids and solids in one meal. For the next day you may still feel weak, and it is advisable to remain with the BRAT diet before you challenge your digestive system with anything substantial.
